A change for good ?

while i was re-reading parker pyne investigates some questions flew to my mind  questions like:

why agatha christie changed her writing style in this book from crimes to more into personal lives  and emotions ? was it because she got bored from crimes little bit and wanted to change and if that was it a change for good? or she wanted to cover up all kind of cases ??

Do you think it was a good idea to create P.P so he can share the page with other detectives , but as being human nature specialist or you think that he is not that much necessary character and a used to detective like ( poirot or marple) could've taken his place   in such  cases ?

I think it was a great Idea, It wasn't such a big change as not all The Poirot's and Miss Marple's were Crime Related, (Strange Jest and The Missing Will) and not all that did involve Crime involved Murder (The Robbery at The Grand Metropolitan and Motive Vs Oportunity) The Non-Crime Christies show her Range as  do her Crime-Related Non-Murder One's, I think It is Odd that she wrote super-natural Stories and for me these do not sit aswell with me, I am meaning The Stories in The Hound Of Death.

I love the Parker Pyne stories. I first saw them on TV (PBS) and enjoyed the psychological aspect.  They seemed like real people and PP was very clever knowing exactly what to do just putting an ad in the Agony column.  Back then, most people read the morning newspaper, and those who had time to peruse and find his column may have been the best "audience" for his services.  I also liked the young "Miss Lemon"....wondering if she was related to Poirot's Miss Lemon or did Agatha just move her from one place to another.

  • I didn't enjoy most of the PP stories - found them rather artificial. But I absolutely loved the one about the bored rich elderly woman. I was so human and real. And besides, don't we all envy rich people now and then, so it's fun to see happiness and fulfillment come with relinquishing money.

I loved the stories relating to his Advert which include the one you are referring to, The Disontented Housewife and the one about the soldier but after the Office ones I don't like then until the one where PP is on Holiday in a Coach, btw, I am currently watching at weekends No Place like Home with The Soldier and Patricia Garwood who plays his wife.

I loved the solider one @Tommy_A_Jones it was so dramatic i think ,well Adriane Oliver did a great job.. And the last story was also good i didn't understand at first how it all went so i re-read it again at the same moment to get it which i did and then said Whaaaat! It was rather funny actually ^-^

I think Agatha Christie may have changed her writing style for the Parker Pyne series because of more of an immersion in domesticity, as the time when "The Case of the Discontented Soldier" was written, was close to the time of her second marriage. Perhaps she also wanted to turn over a new leaf (as she did in the Mary Westmacott novels), but this time be recognised as its creator, doing so within her realm.

The only Parker Pyne stories that come to mind are The Soldier, The Housewife and the one where he goes on some sought of Bus Journey and you can see that one is sketchy for me and the Soldier one I can't remember the title without looking, when I return to Parker Pyne I tend to return to The Soldier or the Housewife just like with the Miss Marple Short stories apart from the Thirteen Problems I tend to return to the one with Bunch or Strange Jest
